The Way We Were - The 1950's

This decade of change is marked by an exhibition displayed throughout the Museum. A decade of Skylon, Sputnik and Coronation, it also saw Elvis Presley burst on to the music scene and enter our lives.

Wedding dresses in the Small Room downstairs are surrounded by momentos and photographs of national and local events.

The Coronation, the Festival of Britain, civic and school affairs, galas and entertainment are around the walls.

Upstairs, the visitors can come into the living room on Coronation Day. They will find the TV, the radio, ironing to be done and tea to be made. Coronation souvenirs are all around - and three ducks fly across the wall!

The visitors will also see National Service recalled and memories of transport, fashion, sport and shopping featured throughout the Museum.

The exhibition runs from Saturday February 2nd to Wednesday April 26th 2008
